Jamaal Bowman Pleads Guilty to Pulling Fire Alarm

Misdemeanor Charge Filed After Delaying Key House Vote

Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) pleaded guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor charge for falsely triggering a fire alarm in a House office building. Bowman admitted to pulling the alarm shortly before the House was scheduled to vote on a key funding measure, which led to a delay in the vote.

Reaction to Bowman's Plea

Fellow Democrats have expressed disappointment in Bowman's actions, while Republicans have called for his resignation. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has said that Bowman's conduct was "unacceptable" and that he will face "appropriate disciplinary action."

Bowman's Defense

Bowman has defended his actions, saying that he was protesting the lack of progress on voting rights legislation. He has also said that he believed there was an actual fire in the building.

Investigation and Charges

The Capitol Police investigated the incident and charged Bowman with a misdemeanor. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 8.
